FRI Description
The MENA FRI is the regional institute along North Africa and the Middle East. It is based at the Faculty of Medicine Ain Shams University. It focuses on health profession education, leadership development, and community building. Based on the curriculum of the International FAIMER Institute, USA, the ASU-MENA-FRI curriculum is modified to be conceptual and relevant to the local needs of health professions educators in the MENA and North Africa region.
To date, 240 fellows had graduated from the MENA region and North Africa and other Asian countries. The MENA region contributes to the dissemination of advanced educational methods in health professions, creating a growing body of health professions educators well versed in best practices of teaching and learning and increases the number of health professions institutions practicing these methods.
During the two-year FAIMER fellowship, Fellows focus on developing, implementing, evaluating, and disseminating an educational intervention supported by didactic sessions informed by the core FAIMER fellowship curriculum.
During Year 1 of the Fellowship, Fellows focus on developing their project with guidance from a Project Advisor and their peers, seeking ethical approval (as needed), and implementation of their project.
During Year 2 of the Fellowship, Fellows continue to focus on implementation as well as evaluation and dissemination of their findings through formats such as a Project Report and/or an abstract.
